Incident summary

On the evening of Dey 18, Alireza was present with a large crowd of people from Qods City (Qaleh Hasan Khan) at the protest gathering on Imamzadeh Boulevard. A short time later, in front of the Qods City Governor’s Office, he was struck in the abdomen by live ammunition fired by government forces. The bullet exited through his back. The young people at the scene carried Alireza away to the parking area of a residential complex a few streets away. They asked the residents there, especially a kind woman, to take care of him. That same woman called me (Alireza’s father) and informed me that Alireza had been shot. Because I was at work and far away, I called Alireza’s older sister. I told her what had happened and asked her to go to the location with one of our close relatives, who was also from Abdanan, and bring Alireza home. The city’s atmosphere, including the hospitals and medical centers, had become heavily securitized, making it impossible to take him to a public hospital. At home, his older sister, who was a nursing student, together with his younger sister, tried to stop Alireza’s severe bleeding and, if possible, connect him to an IV. However, his condition worsened with every passing moment. They then took him, accompanied by other relatives and fellow townspeople from Abdanan, to the private Noor Hospital in Shahriar. But before they reached the hospital, Alireza succumbed to his severe blood loss and passed away. Alireza’s older sister accompanied his body to the morgue of Noor Hospital in Shahriar. That dark, painful winter night was the last time his two sisters saw him and were by his side. It should also be mentioned that Alireza’s mother was a teacher. Because schools had been closed for several days at that time, she had traveled from Qods City to Abdanan with her brother’s and sister’s families to spend the holiday there. On the night of Dey 18, after hearing that Alireza had been shot, she immediately set out for Tehran in tears and grief. On the morning of Dey 19, we went to Noor Hospital in Shahriar, where we were told that the bodies of all those killed had been transferred to the Kahrizak Forensic Medicine Center. We then went to Kahrizak, where, together with our relatives and fellow townspeople from Abdanan, we searched among the many victims of the night of Dey 18. By the evening of Dey 19, we found Alireza’s body, identified with code 12018. We completed the forensic administrative procedures, including the death summary document, that same day. The following evening, Dey 20, we transferred Alireza’s body to our hometown of Abdanan. On Dey 21, accompanied by a large crowd of freedom-loving people from Abdanan and neighboring towns, chanting slogans against the government and honoring the memory and dignity of the fallen, we escorted him to Abdanan Cemetery, his final resting place. Alireza’s fortieth-day memorial was held on Bahman 28, 2026, together with the nationwide fortieth-day commemorations for Iran’s fallen. On Bahman 28 and 29, it was attended by a large gathering of grateful people from Abdanan and the surrounding towns and villages.
