Incident summary
On the 19th of Dey, during street protests near Meraj Square in Mashhad, she was shot from behind with live ammunition by the security forces. She was taken to Hasheminejad Hospital in Mashhad, where she underwent surgery on her head. However, due to the severity of her injuries and extensive blood loss, she died a few hours later.
Memorial narrative
The last words Atefeh left behind were these: When I told her, "Tonight they have authorization to shoot. They're firing live rounds. Come, let's go back home," she replied: "Mom, my blood is no more precious than anyone else's." She left—and she never returned home.
