Memorial narrative
My brother became one of the fallen on the path to freedom. He always used to say, “Brother, the greatest stroke of luck in our lives was being born Kurdish—that was the lottery we won.” He chose to go in the hope of freedom, believing that afterward, both he and all of us would finally be able to live in peace and with dignity.
