Incident summary
According to his family’s account, on 18 Dey, Omid joined other people in the protests. Late that night, he returned home with his body covered in pellet wounds. He told his family that a young man had died in his arms. They later learned that the young man was Mohammadreza Ghorbani. Despite his injuries and his family’s pleas for him not to go out again, Omid insisted on returning. He said, “What kind of man would I be if they killed someone else’s child and I didn’t go?” On 19 Dey, in South Hafez Street, Omid was shot directly in the neck and lost his life. According to his family, Omid’s body was returned to them a week later. Amid heavy security measures and numerous threats, he was buried in Section 20 of Behesht-e Masoumeh Cemetery in Shahin Shahr. His memory will remain with us forever, and the sorrow of losing him will remain in my heart and in the heart of Iran.
