On 20 Dey, despite witnessing the atrocities committed two nights earlier, he chose to sacrifice himself for the future of his country. He told his wife and children, "Death does not come only to the neighbors." At 7:45 p.m., he was killed after being shot in the face. His body was kept hidden in the family home until the following morning out of fear that it would be taken away. On 21 Dey, his body was handed over to the Intelligence authorities, and on 24 Dey, he was laid to rest in the presence of the people under a heavy security atmosphere.
