Soghra Hatami

A deeply kind and devoted mother, she became both our mother and our father after our father passed away 28 years ago. She raised us on her own and supported every one of us in completing our university education. She never allowed us to feel that we lacked anything in life. She loved life and traveling. Anyone who met her even once was touched by her kindness. She always helped those in need and was the guardian of a loved one in her care. She regularly participated in Iran's forest restoration initiatives. The last tree she planted was an oak in the Zagros Mountains with the Algen Association. She was our pride. Her compassion, integrity, and humanity brought honor to us as her children. Within our family and our neighborhood, we were always regarded with respect as "Mrs. Shirazi's children." She was born in Shiraz, and her neighbors lovingly called her "Mrs. Shirazi." May her memory and name live on forever.

Incident summary

She was a highly aware and progressive mother who openly opposed the Islamic Republic, especially Ali Khamenei and Ruhollah Khomeini. She had also participated in the 2022 protests. She did so without telling us. We only found out after a young woman whom she had helped save from security forces during the 2022 protests came to our home with her father to thank her. On 14 Dey, we attended the protests together. On 19 Dey, I pleaded with her not to go outside because Khamenei had ordered security forces to open fire. She refused and said, "Freedom requires sacrifice. Is my blood any more precious than that of the young people?" We went together to the Third Square of Fardis, where we joined others in chanting slogans. I repeatedly begged her to step back, but she refused. She stood in the front row, leading the chants. According to the family's account, a sniper positioned on top of a building shot her in the head with a live bullet. She later died from her injuries in my arms. 💔🖤😭 May her memory and name live on forever.
