On 18 Dey, he went out in response to the call issued by the Shah. He was in Haft Hoz. Five minutes before he was shot, he called his family. Filled with excitement, he said, “There are so many of us here tonight.” His voice was full of hope, and he said, “It's over—we're going to win.” He promised to be careful, but as soon as the call ended, the shooting began. Because he was at the front of the crowd, one live bullet struck the back of his head and another hit his side. With the help of people nearby, he was taken to Alghadir Hospital. They brought him to the hospital's back courtyard—the very place where they wrapped him in a blue blanket. In that moment, our entire lives became defined by a single photograph from the back courtyard of Alghadir Hospital. His family searched, one by one, beneath every blanket, hoping to find their loved one. But from a distance, they recognized the boots sticking out from under one blanket—the very boots his daughter had given him for his birthday the year before. In that instant, their world came to an end, and every hope that he would not be there was buried. May his memory and name live on.
